CEDAR CITY – A Cedar City man was arrested on various charges Thursday after he allegedly peeked into the windows of a home, recorded what he saw, committed an act of lewdness and then fled from officers.
Cedar City Police officers were called to an address on Harding Avenue in Cedar City Thursday morning on reports that a man was peeking in windows and looking at the residents of a home. Witnesses reported the man was recording video with his cellphone while looking in through a bathroom window.

“He was also reported to have masturbated while viewing/recording a female get out of the shower,” a probable cause statement filed in support of the arrest said.
Responding officers found the man, identified as David James Whitmore, 29, of Cedar City, as he was looking in the window, according to the statement.
Whitmore fled from the officers, the statement said, running through backyards for about three blocks until they caught up with him and arrested him.
When Whitmore was read his Miranda rights and questioned, he admitted to all the allegations against him, according to the statement. A corroborating video was also found on his cellphone.
Whitmore was booked into the Iron County Jail. He has been charged with one class A misdemeanor for voyeurism, one class A misdemeanor for failing to stop at an officer’s command, and one class B misdemeanor for lewdness.
Whitmore was released from jail on bond, according to court documents. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 22.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
